In 2002, Commander James A. (T'sikes) Webb (then Captain), would be temporarily transferred from the USS DEFIANT NCC 1630-D where he was the Chief Security Officer (CS0) to the BRIGHTSTAR as its Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Six months later he would be asked to stay on a more permanent basis. He would then be moved from medical to command to become the First Officer of the BRIGHTSTAR.
